To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to you today to express my interest in the science teaching position within your school district.  Currently, I am a science teacher at Fitzgerald Public Schools in Warren, MI. I believe my dedication to education, creative nature, passion for science, experience in the field and diligent work ethic will make me a highly qualified candidate for the position.

In May 2011, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the Lyman Briggs College of Michigan State University with a major in Biological Science and a minor in Chemistry for secondary education.  Soon after graduation, I moved to Chicago, Il to complete my year-long student teaching requirement.  My experience at King College Preparatory High School allowed me to harness my creativity in developing diversified instruction that tied in important social and historical events into the science curriculum.   It also allowed me to practice my skills in creating and implementing differentiated instruction and assessments that allowed all students of differing educational backgrounds, learning styles and skill levels to learn effectively, develop the skills of scientific thinking and to work with one another in student-led cooperative learning.  Since then, I have had the privilege of teaching biology and human anatomy and physiology to an extremely diverse group of learners in Naples, FL as well as Chemistry and Forensic Science in Warren, MI. The skills I developed throughout these experiences have proven imperative to my success, and the success of my students within my own classroom.

Learning and scientific exploration are encouraged within my classroom with different hands-on lab activities as well as inquiry and application based demonstrations.  These classroom experiences provide students with a new understanding that inspires further comprehension of content and eagerness to learn.  It also allows students to develop the critical thinking, analysis, inquiry and research skills that are key in their ability to engage in the world around them. We apply the scientific method and utilize experimental information from labs to create graphs, tables and concise conclusive statements.  These skills will better help prepare students for future classes, ACT/SAT exams and becoming a life-long learner. I also utilize weekly quizzes that help students to continually practice developing important study skills and allow both teacher and student to track student progress towards mastery.

I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss with you further about my qualifications for the position at your school.  Thank you for your time and consideration.  Should there be any more information or documentation needed, please feel free to contact me.  I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Lauren L. Wohlfert
