Inquiry and Innovation

Inquiry Report

Learning goes far beyond the ability to retain information.  To ensure a deeper understanding, it is key that students are provided with activities and lessons that spark student interest and promote student engagement.  Inquiry-based activities and labs encourage students to build upon their own observations or understanding of scientific principles in developing student constructed learning.  The activity discussed in this inquiry report on DNA motivated student curiousity and involvement, and gave students the chance to collaborate with peers in developing their understanding of DNA and the transforming principle.

Program Proposal: CTE Manufacturing Class

Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses are academic programs aimed to provide secondary and postsecondary students with the training necessary to obtain a high-demand, high-wage, technical career.  As a high school teacher, I have witnessed the influence these courses can have on a student’s interest in academics, motivation to succeed, and ability to plan for an exciting future in the career of their choice.  The purpose of this proposal was to analyze student needs, contextual factors, program objectives, learning objectives and bugetary concerns involved in developing and implementing a manufacturing CTE program at my school. Providing students with a manufacturing CTE program would help students not only pursue employment opportunities within this growing field, but also inspire students to pursue a degree within manufacturing, packaging, engineering, or industrial technology.
